Antoine Smith Death – Authorities said Thursday, September 22, 2022, that a suspect had been detained in connection with the murder of a Phoenix man who was reportedly abducted, slain, and dismembered in Tucson.
According to Phoenix police, John Cole, 45, has been arrested and is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder, abduction, theft by coercion, concealing a body, and other felonies.
On Thursday, it wasn’t apparent if Cole had a lawyer yet who could represent him. Antoine Smith, 28, was reported missing on Monday, according to the police. He is believed to have been abducted from his Phoenix residence a few days earlier because of an overdue monetary bill.
Cole’s car was tracked down by detectives as it traveled to California, and Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers assisted in the suspect’s arrest.
According to authorities, a search order was obtained and human remains were discovered inside Cole’s car.
According to court records, during an interview with officers, Cole reportedly admitted to killing Smith in self-defense and dismembering the body at his Tucson home.
More of Smith’s bones were found south of Tucson, according to the police, where Cole later allegedly guided investigators.
