Christopher Elliot McLeod; Suspect Responsible for 308 Shade Street Georgetown Shooting Spree Arrested

A man barricaded himself in the early hours of Saturday September 17, 2022 around 308 Shade Street in the City of Georgetown and began to discharge violently from an assault rifle.

The attention of Georgetown Police Department was called to the scenario around 4:15 am. Officers were dispatched to the location immediately. Upon arrival officers met with the victim who advised the suspect had come home and was intoxicated. The suspect obtained an assault rifle and began discharging the weapon inside and outside of the residence.

The suspect then barricaded himself into a bedroom. Officers identified the suspect as Christopher Elliot McLeod of 308 Shade Street. He is a 24 year old white male. Responding officers attempted to make contact with the suspect multiple times without success.

A perimeter was established and neighboring houses were evacuated and the residents sheltered in place. The decision was made to request the assistance of the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office and their SWAT team. Again numerous attempts were made to contact the suspect but were unsuccessful.

The SWAT team made entry to the residence and the suspect was taken into custody. The suspect was transported to the Georgetown County Detention Center and charged with Aggravated Breach of Peace and Discharging a firearm into a dwelling. There were no injuries in this case.

Police Chief William Pierce commended the officers and deputies for their professionalism during this operation which led this case to a successful resolution. The Department also wants to thank the community for their patience and understanding as this case was brought
