Erika Caroline Walker Evans Death and Obituary, 26-year-old Woman Identified as Victim in Wallace Park Shooting Homicide

Police have publicly identified the victim in last weekend’s fatal shooting at Wallace Park in Northwest Portland.

Erika Caroline Walker Evans, 26, died at the park as paramedics tried to revive her, police said.

Her death was ruled a homicide by gunshot wound, the Medical Examiner said.

Police responded at about 11 p.m. to reports of a shooting at the park, near Northwest 25th Avenue and Pettygrove Street. The park is home to an off-leash dog park, basketball courts, baseball and soccer fields, playgrounds and Chapman Elementary School.

In the past three years, only one other shooting has occurred in the vicinity of Wallace Park, according to data from the Portland Police Bureau. No one was hurt in that earlier shooting.

Fourteen women and 58 men have died by homicide in Portland so far this year. This report may be updated.
