Fort myers high school shooting today, active shooter news? What happened?

FALSE report of active shooter at South Fort Myers High School. This is why my five-year-old does more lockdown drills than fire drills…IN KINDERGARTEN. Sickening.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT This afternoon at approximately 1:00 p.m., the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding an active shooter at South Fort Myers High School. All resources were allocated and deployed to the school. Shortly after, it was determined to be a hoax call.

South Fort Myers High School and other schools in the area were placed on a brief lockdown after a call reporting a gun. Authorities say it was part of a national “swatting” event.

The Lee County School District said a gun was reported on the South Fort Myers High School campus Friday afternoon, but it was believed to be a hoax.

Lee County School District spokesman Rob Spicker said the incident was a false alarm.

The school is on Plantation Road.

For safety reasons, authorities are inspecting schools as a precaution, Spike said. Other schools went into lockdown as a precaution, but the lockdown has now been lifted.

“The Lee County Sheriff’s Office has been notified of a possible threat from @LeeSchools,” the sheriff’s office said in a tweet. “All resources have been provided to our school for review. At the same time, we have received information that the reported threat may be part of a nationwide crackdown.”

A slap is when someone mistakenly calls the authorities to attract a large number of police.

The call took the authorities to the school, and there was a helicopter in the air. The streets around the school were full of cars and parents were crying, not knowing what was going on.

Several schools have been cordoned off and searched, the sheriff’s office said.
