Molly Mathison, 22, of Fort Worth, and Megan Gertrum, 36, of Plano, were brutally raped and murdered by serial rapist Reginald Kimbrough.
He is now a convicted felon, serving a life sentence without parole for two murders and four other counts of sexual assault in 2017. Kimbrough pleaded guilty before going to trial, securing a plea deal that avoided the death penalty.
Both Matheson and Getrum were murdered within days. The former victim had a relationship with the killer as the two dated in the past.
However, Meghan, who has never met Kimbrough, was violently attacked while hiking near her home in Plano. In both cases, DNA was a common piece of evidence linking serial escapes to murder.
On Friday, NBC Dateline plans to revisit the tragic and horrific deaths of Molly Matheson and Megan Getrum, and how authorities finally overthrew Reginald Kimbro and stopped his sexual assault in Texas. The episode, titled “The Wreck,” will air on the network on September 23, 2022 at 9 p.m. ET.

Molly Matheson’s mother, Tracy, was concerned about not being at work on April 10, 2017. The concerned mother even contacted a friend who lived across the street from her daughter’s garage in Fort Worth.
Although her friend assured her Molly’s car was parked outside, Tracy decided to check out the 22-year-old’s home and make sure her daughter was safe herself.
She found Molly was not there and the door was unlocked. After calling her name and starting a house search, Tracy walked into the backyard and then to the bathroom.
