
American television news anchor and reporter Tasmin Mahfuz. Mahfuz, a Gracie Award winner, started working as a nightly news anchor for WDVM (previously WHAG) in December 2015, becoming the first American woman of Bangladeshi descent to broadcast an evening news program.
Mahfuz, the daughter of Abdul and Nazmun Mahfuz, was born and reared in Florida. The parents are both from Bangladesh. At the age of 19, her father Abdul, a businessman and philanthropist, left Chittagong, Bangladesh, for the United States. A secondary school for girls in Chandanash, Bangladesh, is one of her many charitable endeavors. Its goal is to give rural girls access to an education that is otherwise unavailable to women in the area due to distance and poverty. The construction of a college next to the high school is currently in the planning and development stages. In South Florida, Nazmun creates and hosts weekly television programs for WLRN and PBS.
King’s College in West Palm Beach served as her high school, and in 2009, she graduated from Emory University with a bachelor’s degree in international relations. Mafuzi took part in a two-year internship at the UN after graduating.
She joined the global network Ebru TV in 2012 and reported from Washington, DC, New Jersey, and New York City. She was tasked with reporting on the destruction left behind by Hurricane Sandy, the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and the New Jersey shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. Mahfuz reports live from the UN, bringing you the latest information on US-Iranian ties, the annexation of Crimea, and Syrian developments.
Mahfuz began working for ABC 4 Utah in August 2014 as a reporter and bureau head for Southern Utah. She established the first television news bureau for the station in St. George’s and was entirely in charge of covering an area of 20,000 square miles with a population of more than 200,000.
