31-year-old Vanessa Cross has been identified as the victim of a deadly shooting Wednesday night on Wallace Circle in Marion, according to Marion County Deputy Coroner Jim Gray.
Gray said Cross was pregnant and her family has indicated that she was eight months into her pregnancy. He added an autopsy is being performed to determine a specific cause of death.
Police said her two children, a 7-year-old and 4-year-old, were in the home when she was shot. Officers said the 7-year-old went to a neighbor and told them his mother had been shot.
Marion Police Chief Tony Flowers said they do not believe the shooting to be random and they do have a person of interest. That person is not in custody and the name is not being released.
State police are also helping with the investigation.
