Wavis Jordan Death and Obituary, Victim Identified in Cape Girardeau Fatal Shooting

One person has died and another has been charged in a shooting incident that took place Friday evening, September 23, 2022 in Cape Girardeau.

According to Cape Girardeau County Coroner Wavis Jordan, 57-year-old Robert L. Mannie, of St. Louis, died as a result of the shooting.

He was found unresponsive, with what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and head.

Martevion Curry, 22, from Cape Girardeau, was arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder, armed criminal action. It happened outside of an apartment building at 921 William Street near Sprigg Street.

According to a probable cause statement, Cape Girardeau 911 communications received a call from Curry, stating a man tried to take his gun and that he “killed” him.

Responding officers took Curry into custody and recovered the firearm. Surveillance footage showed Mannie sitting on the porch, then suddenly slumping over as Curry was pacing back and forth nearby.

Investigators say there didn’t appear to be any physical confrontation between the two. Curry was also captured walking across William Street with a handgun in his hand.

According to Cape Girardeau County State Prosecuting Attorney’s office, Curry’s cash-only bond is set at $1,000,000.

Cape Girardeau police, the fire department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol were on the scene.
